Ship plans are conventionally drawn with the bow of the ship on the right and to a scale of ¼ inch to 1 ft in length. The ship plans in our collection are primarily working drawings from shipyards, architects, designers and draughtsmen. It includes the Admiralty Collection which holds around 8000 plans representing approximately 10,000 ships.Īlongside those of British vessels, we also hold plans for foreign ships and vessels purchased into the Royal Navy. Our collection of over one million ship plans dates back to the early 18th century.
